Journal - New Feature

I am currently developing a new feature which will be included in the game.
It's a new innovative way to narrate the game's story.
It's a journal (diary) which the player can access all the time and it will be automatically
updated, reflecting player's actions.
Think of Stanley Parable's narration, it is similar but it is in text form.
I am putting a lot of effort into making this feature decent and I believe it will turn out really good.
Most probably I will write a whole new post describing the feature.

Main characters- Artwork and introduction

Hello!
Now that I've finished off the secondary character Baldwin, I feel ready to introduce all the characters to you.

I will begin with the main protagonist- Matilda.

Matilda is the main character in Aterweald II and the player will be playing as her most of the time.
She was born in Barrowstead- a fairly big town, somewhat close to the eponymous Aterweald.
Although she was staying in Barrowstead for the most of her life, she is adventurous type of a woman. She is longing for adrenaline.
In Aterweald II, Matilda is engaged in the story as she meets a member of a secret society of witch hunters which are investigating the Aterweald case.

Now I shall continue with the second protagonist- Baldwin.

Baldwin is a secondary character in Aterweald II, yet the player will periodically take control over him.
He is an inflated man who is pretty much Matilda's opposite type of a character.
He does not want any adrenaline in his life but his fate is much different.
In Aterweald II, Baldwin happens upon a very unfortunate series of events after which, he ends up in the dungeon of the Ses' fort. For the rest of the game he will be desperately trying to escape it with not even caring about the mystery he was drawn into.

And now last, but not least- Ses

Ses is the main antagonist in Aterweald II.
He is a fantasy deity which represents the sunlight. He lives in a fort, hidden inside a system of caves north of Aterweald.
Although his superior powers, Ses is unknown to the world. His only worshippers were a few so-called witches which, at some point, had their souls bought off from Ses. In exchange he gave them magical powers.
Ses possesses the power to transport people, or anything else for that matter, to a parallel world named
Nac'ba.
Nac'ba is Ses' world. A world of nothing. No time. No life. Nothing.
Nac'ba is a infinite desert. However, Nac'ba appears to be much older than Ses itself. Ses merely inherited the control over Nac'ba from his ancestors- The ancient ones which do not appear anywhere in the game.
I will explain more about Nac'ba in some of my future posts.

I hope you find the characters interesting!

First screenshot from the second chapter.

Hey there!

I've been working on the second chapter of Aterweald II and then I saw a good opportunity for a beautiful screenshot and I took it.
After some time editing in Photoshop, I've finished it and I think it turned out as a great screen.
Yeah this time I've added a few effects but nevertheless I am satisfied with the results.
I believe it can be used as a wallpaper.

Check it out and tell me if you like it =)

First screenshots from Aterweald II - #ScreenshotSaturday

Hello fellow people!

Now I am going to share with you the first screenshots from Aterweald II.
They are just two but I promise that a lot more are laying just behind the corner!

Those screenshots were taken from the first chapter of Aterweald II and they are straight gameplay screenshots, no post-effects. I hope you will enjoy them and I would be more than glad to hear what you think! =)

The heroine comes to life!

Hello everyone!

I just finished the main protagonist in Aterweald II!
Her name is Matilda and she's young adventurous woman.

Matilda was born in Barrowstead and she stayed there for her whole life, although she has the lust for adventures. In Aterweald II she will meet a member of a secret society of witch hunters and this will take her on the adventure she was dreaming for. Or maybe it will turn out to be much more dangerous.

Here's some artwork (concept art) so you can picture her better.

Tell me what you think about her?

Drawing landscape concept art

Hey everyone!

Today I've finished another painting that I've been working on for couple of days.
The picture represents a landscape that I will try to re-create in the game. The landscape is near a town that I've named Barrowstead.
Barrowstead is the born place of Matilda (the main protagonist) and it is introduced to the player in the second chapter of the game.

I hope you will like it! =)

Creating the antagonist- Ses

Hello there!

Today I've been working on the main antagonist in Aterweald II
His name is Ses and he is a fantasy deity representing the sun.
Ses is living in a hidden fort situated inside a system of caves north of the village Aterweald.
In the past he was worshipped by a few women which he later made them his servants by buying their souls and giving them magical powers. Those servants are living with him in his fort and in the game they are called witches. Player's first encounter with the witches happens in the first game- Aterweald: Witch Hunt and then again in the first chapter of Aterweald II.

I will talk much more about Nac'ba in my future posts.

Below you can see the process of drawing Ses.
Please remember that I am not a concept artist myself so the results might not be exactly "professional".

I am currently working on the main protagonist - Matilda. I will present it as soon as possible.

Aterweald II- So what's it about?

Aterweald II..

If you have read my previous post you already know that this is a sequence to my previous game- Aterweald: Witch Hunt
Aterweald II is a first person adventure horror game set in a fantasy medieval world.
The story is already written but I will refrain from giving away too much for now. However here is a brief description.
The story will follow the path of our protagonist Matilda- young adventurous woman. The player will also periodically take the role of a secondary character Baldwin- man who gets in a lot of trouble.
The antagonist is a fantasy deity named Ses. Ses lives in a underground fort situated deep inside a system of caves near a small village named Aterweald. The village is abandoned by its villagers because it was recently visited by a few women- Ses' servants. They can be described as soulless witches. However a secret society of witch hunters went after the Aterweald's intruders. Eventually Matilda and a member of the witch hunters cross paths and that's how Matilda engages on an adventure which will turn out to be much bigger than expected.

The game will focus on a few things:

  • In-depth story
  • Interactiveness with the surroundings
  • Immersive atmosphere
  • Well designed horror moments (eg. jumpscares)
And for ending to this post, here is the game's logo, presented in a simple wallpaper (1920x1080)

Soon I will provide you with some concept art and, perhaps, screenshots.

Bye!

Introducing myself.. Hello!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog!

Here I will update you with news and updates on my current indie adventure horror game- Aterweald II
As this is my first post, here I will introduce myself and in future posts I will talk about my current project- Aterweald II- Dev logs, media, ideas etc.

So.. My name is Kaloyan Marinoff and I am from Bulgaria. I am 17 years old and I've been programming for over 6 years now (well the first couple of years are hardly defined as "programming" but still).
Recently I've dedicated myself to game development. Because I think I have slightly different understanding for video games. I see video games as an art, equal to cinema, even better and I am a creative mind by default =)
I've been working on different projects. Several personal projects, unfortunately none of them finished. I've also helped a few successful indie games. My last finished project- Aterweald: Witch Hunt
is an first person horror adventure which I've developed to see how far I could reach in that genre. Although the game is relatively short- around 30 minutes of gameplay, I am very satisfied with the results. The game is currently for sale on Desura. Also a few Let's Players made reviews on YouTube. Yeah.. Although I haven't sold a lot of copies I am satisfied with the feedback I got.
That might be the reason why my latest project is a sequence to Aterweald: Witch Hunt.
That's the purpose of this blog, to inform you about the progress on my current project- Aterweald II.
